Chicago White Sox decline SS Tim Anderson’s 2024 team option

Shortstop Tim Anderson will become a free agent after the Chicago White Sox announced Saturday they have declined the $14-million team option on his contract for 2024.

Anderson has been a member of the White Sox for his eight-year MLB career. He has made two All-Star appearances, won the AL batting title in 2019 and won a Silver Slugger award.

The 30-year-old had a career-worst season in 2023, slashing just .245/.286/.296 while hitting just one home run.

A first-round pick by Chicago in the 2013 MLB Draft, Anderson has played 895 games with the franchise, racking up 1,021 hits to the tune of a .282/.312/.422 slash line with 98 home runs, 338 RBIs and 117 stolen bases.

He will hit the free agent market, which is relatively thin on middle-infield options.
