Twins to get OF Byron Buxton back for Game 4 vs. Astros

The Twins will have received permission to add outfielder Byron Buxton to their roster for Wednesday’s American League Division Series elimination game against the Houston Astros.

Buxton, who has not played since Aug. 1 because of a knee injury, will take the place of first baseman/outfielder Alex Kirilloff, who is injured. The substitution, which had to be approved by Major League Baseball, means Kirilloff cannot return to the Twins lineup before the World Series, should they advance that far.

The 30-year-old Buxton is a .239 career hitter who won the Gold Glove in 2017 and was an All-Star last summer.

The Twins will host the Astros in Game 4 of their best-of-five ALDS, needing a win to extend the series. You can catch the game on Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet+ at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
