Reports: Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes restructure contract to match other top QBs

The Kansas City Chiefs and MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes have agreed to restructure his contract which will see him earn $210.6 million between 2023 and 2026, according to multiple reports.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the agreement.

The $210.6 million in guaranteed money is the largest over a four-year span in NFL history. He could earn as much as $218.1 million by the end of 2026 with escalators, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Mahomes and the Chiefs initially agreed to a 10-year contract worth up to $450 million. The new contract will shorten the term of the original deal to bring his annual compensation in line with other star quarterbacks across the league.

The Cincinnati Bengals recently made Joe Burrow the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL with a five-year, $275 million deal earlier this month.

Mahomes, who turned 28 on Sunday, is a two-time MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion. The Chiefs have reached the AFC title game in five consecutive seasons.
