The Arizona Coyotes have signed former first rounder Olli Juolevi to a professional tryout agreement, the club announced Wednesday.
The defenceman was selected fifth overall in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Vancouver Canucks and played 23 regular season games for the team before being traded to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Juho Lammikko and Noah Juulsen.
Juolevi has spent the majority of his professional career bouncing from the NHL to AHL, playing for the Canucks, Panthers, Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks organizations.
Often drawing ire from Canucks fans, the 25-year-old never quite seemed to meet the expectations of the club or its fans. Selected with the pick immediately after Juolevi was Hart Memorial Trophy finalist Matthew Tkachuk, who played six seasons with the Calgary Flames.
