UConn to face Toronto Metropolitan in Aaliyah Edwards’ homecoming game

UConn women’s basketball will travel to Canada to take on the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold on Dec. 20 for senior Aaliyah Edwards’ homecoming game, the team announced Thursday.

Edwards, a native of Kingston, Ont., has been a member of Canada Basketball since 2017. Edwards has represented Canada with the senior national team since 2019, including at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, 2022 GLOBL JAM and 2023 FIBA AmeriCup.

Edwards had a breakout junior season in 2022-23, averaging 16.6, nine rebounds and 2.4 assists in 37 appearances. She was named the Big East most improved player and the Big East Tournament’s most outstanding player, while earning a First-Team All-Conference nod.

The game, which will be the first meeting between the Huskies and the Bold, will be played at Mattamy Athletic Centre.

UConn will have three homecoming games on its schedule this season. The Huskies travel to Minneapolis on Nov. 19 to face Minnesota for Paige Bueckers, a native of Hopkins, Minn. UConn is traveling to Zagreb, Croatia, home of Nika Mühl, this month and will host Ball State, where Mühl’s sister plays, on Dec. 6.
