The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenceman Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2025 from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Jeff Petry, the club announced Tuesday.
The Canadiens will retain 50 per cent of Petry’s salary, which amounts to $2,343,750. The Penguins had previously retained 25 per cent ($1,562,500) of his salary before shipping Petry to Montreal last week.
Petry, 35, played for the Canadiens from 2015-2022 before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2022. The Canadiens re-acquired the defenceman on August 6, along with goaltender Casey DeSmith, in exchange for Mike Hoffman and Rem Pitlick.
In 508 games with the Canadiens, Petry scored 70 goals for 248 points across eight seasons.
Lindstrom, 24, played four seasons on the blue line for the Red Wings, totally two goals and 25 points. His most productive season came in 2021-22, when the native of Ostervala, Sweden, scored one goal and 13 points in 63 games.
He was initially selected in the second round, 38th overall, by the Red Wings.
