The Toronto Blue Jays are hopeful top starter Kevin Gausman will be able to return from injury during this weekend’s road series against the Seattle Mariners.
Gausman was a late scratch from his scheduled start last Saturday because of left side discomfort. With an off-day Monday, the Blue Jays opted to keep him out for this week’s home series against the San Diego Padres.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Tuesday that Gausman is feeling better and making progress. He will throw a side session on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu is scheduled to make his second rehab start for triple-A Buffalo on Friday in Syracuse against the Mets. The team is aiming for Ryu to throw five or six innings and 80 pitches after the 36-year-old went five innings (66 pitches) while allowing one run last Saturday against Toledo.
Ryu is coming off Tommy John surgery last June.
Right-hander Chad Green, also coming off Tommy John surgery, is scheduled to make his first rehab appearance on Saturday at class-A Dunedin.
