Tiger-Cats QB Mitchell wont play in home opener Shiltz to start vs. Alouettes

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will not have the injured Bo Levi Mitchell as their starting quarterback for their home opener against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday.

Head coach Orlondo Steinauer confirmed that Matthew Shiltz will start in place of Mitchell, who is expected to dress as the backup but not play, per Rick Zamperin of CHML 900 AM.

Mitchell was pulled from the Tiger-Cats’ loss to the Toronto Argonauts on Sunday with a lower-body injury, finishing the game with 161 yards and two interceptions. Hamilton lost 32-14 to fall to 0-2 on the season.

The 33-year-old signed a three-year contract with Hamilton in the off-season after spending 10 seasons with the Calgary Stampeders. Mitchell has struggled out of the gate, throwing for 349 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions.

Shiltz started three games last season, posting a 2-1 record with 935 passing yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.
