The MLB-leading Tampa Bay Rays have placed Drew Rasmussen, one of their top starters, on the 60-day injured list with a flexor strain, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
The move comes one day after Rasmussen gave up no runs on two hits in seven innings in a win over the New York Yankees.
Topkin says Rasmussen hopes to avoid surgery.
The right-hander is 4-2 with a 2.62 ERA, 47 strikeouts and 11 walks this season.
Acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers last May, Rasmussen was AL pitcher of the month in August. That month, he had a perfect game bid broken up by the Baltimore Orioles.
