Ottawa Senators prospect Tyler Boucher is out for the remainder of the season after injuring his shoulder while playing for the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League.
According to the team, the 20-year-old forward has suffered a torn labrum.
“In consultation (with) the Senators’ medical staff, it has been determined that Tyler requires a surgical procedure to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder,” said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion in the team’s news release.
“Tyler suffered the injury while playing with the United States at the World Junior Championship and then returned to Ottawa to rehabilitate in an attempt to continue his season with the 67’s. After aggravating the injury in a game against the Kingston Frontenacs last week, it was determined that surgery is the best option.”
Boucher, the Senators’ 10th overall pick at the 2021 NHL Draft, has played just 27 games this season between the 67’s and the USA’s U-20 team. In his 21 appearances with the 67’s, the Scottsdale, Ariz. native has collected 10 goals and eight assists.
According to the Senators, Boucher’s surgery is scheduled to take place in the next few weeks. With an anticipated recovery timeline of three to four months, he’s expected to be fully healed by the time the Sens open training camp in September.
