Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks suspended one game for 18th technical foul of season

Memphis Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks has been suspended one game for receiving his 18th technical foul of the season Monday night against the Dallas Mavericks. He will miss Memphis’ game Wednesday against the Houston Rockets.

Brooks had already been suspended earlier this month for receiving his 16th technical foul.

NBA rules stipulate that players receive a one-game suspension for a 16th technical foul in one season, followed by the same punishment for every two additional technicals.

Brooks received his 18th technical for taunting the Mavericks bench after a dunk mid-way through the third quarter of the Grizzlies’ win.

The Canadian leads the NBA in technical fouls this season, ahead of Trae Young, Draymond Green and Luka Doncic, all of whom have 16.

Former Portland Trail Blazers and Detroit Pistons all-star Rasheed Wallace holds the record for most technical fouls in a season with 41, set with the Blazers back in 2000-01.

Brooks is increasingly gaining a reputation as one of the NBA’s biggest agitators.

The 27-year-old is averaging 14.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists, shooting below 40 per cent from the field, for the 44-27 Grizzlies.
