Canucks sign defenceman Christian Wolanin to two-year contract extension

The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenceman Christian Wolanin to a two-year, two-way contract extension.

Wolanin will earn $775,000 at the NHL level.

“Christian has been a key contributor at both the AHL and NHL level this season,” said Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin. “He has developed nicely under the watchful eye of our Abbotsford coaching staff and player development team. This has allowed him to step into his current role in the NHL and show that he can help our team get results.”

The 28-year-old has split this season between Vancouver and the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks. He has put up three assists in 15 NHL games so far.

Wolanin had registered 55 points in 49 AHL games with Abbotsford to lead all Canucks skaters and AHL defencemen in scoring. He was recalled by Vancouver on February 15.

The Quebec native was originally selected by the Ottawa Senators in the fourth round, 107th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft.
