Canadian Summer McIntosh breaks world junior record in 200-metre butterfly

Summer McIntosh broke her own world junior record and Canadian record in the 200-metre butterfly final at the Canadian Swimming Trials on Friday.

The 16-year-old clocked in at 2:04.70, surpassing her 2:05.05 performance set on March 3 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. With the result, McIntosh is now the sixth fastest woman to swim the event.

“I’m pretty happy with that swim, there’s always things to improve on,” McIntosh said after the race. “To get under the 2:05 barrier, I’m pretty happy.”

McIntosh earned her spot to swim the event at the 2023 FINA World Championships in Japan.

Earlier this week, McIntosh set a world record in the 400-metre freestyle and a world junior record in the 200-metre individual medley.
