Marino, ranked 83rd in the world, never faced a break point against the world No. 43. The Vancouver product led 10-0 in the aces department.
Marino will next face No. 6 seed Coco Gauff of the U.S at the WTA Tour 1000 event.
Toronto’s Katherine Sebov, a qualifier, will face Linda Fruhvirtova of Czechia later Tuesday.
Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga, Ont., faces Emma Raducanu of Great Britain, while Leylah Fernandez of Laval, Que. meets Lelia Tsurenko of Ukraine in first-round action on Wednesday.
